Bomb Attack on Srilankan Cricket Players in Pakistan (March 3rd 2009)

Breaking news flowing in from Karachi that there have been attacks made on the Sri Lankan team while they were on their way to the stadium from the hotel. Grenades and kalashnikovs were used in the attack and atleast three players have been injured.

Injury Reports: There are unconfirmed reports about how many Lankan players have been injured, three are confirmed surely, Tharanga Paranavitana and Thilan Samaraweera are the players who have been injured badly. They were rushed to the hospital immediately and there’s no medical announcement yet on the extent of their injuries. Skipper Mahela is injured on the foot.

There’re reports that one of the players has been hit on the chest, Mahela has taken a bullet on his leg. There are reports that a few others are down too, Ajantha Mendis and Kumara Sangakkara are the names that are coming out now. Both these men are also heard to be injured in these attacks.

Pakistani television channels confirm that 5 policemen lost their lives in the whole episode. The gunmen were heavily equipped, rocket launchers, kalashnikovs and grenades have been found with them. No identity proof found yet.
